What happened to our page?

Jul 27, 2005 | Comments

I’ve just upgraded the version of Wordpress for our blog. I need to create a new theme to return the page back to its original form. Look forward to updates in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we thought it was important to start blogging again.

The End of a Friend

Mar 3, 2005 | Comments

Today, Yahoo! celebrates their 10-year anniversary on the Internet. It is amazing to think that I have been running around the same networks for the same amount of time. However, in contrast to Yahoo!’s celebration, today I celebrate the end of an era.

I was reading some e-mail yesterday when my Netscape Mail Client went on the fritz. It kept scrolling up and would not act normal. I ended up ending the process manually and starting the client again. The restarted Netscape and it work fine, until I rebooted my computer. When I rebooted my computer, my Netscape profile disappeared. All the files were still there, but the js.prefs was missing and other important parts of the file– to Netscape the profile was dead.

After fiddling around with files for a while, I was able to import all my old mail into Mozilla Suite’s Thunderbird. Since Netscape and Thunderbird have the same core, porting the files manually worked. I was able to get a hold of all my e-mails from the past year and half. The only casualty was my sent mail, which I have archived. I synched Thunderbird with all my mail accounts and life is back to normal.

With Thunderbird up and running, it is time to put a good friend to rest. I first downloaded Netscape sometime in 1996. I think it took a while to upgrade my computer from 2.4Kps to a 9.6kps modem. High speed modems were expensive back then and to run the graphical client I think you needed something greater than 7200Kps or something like that. For many years, excluding the mission, I have booted up Netscape and retrieved my mail for the day. I did enjoy all those days with my Netscape client, but sometimes its time to put our favorite computer tools to rest.

Today, Yahoo! celebrates 10 years on the Internet, but today I celebrate the end of my Netscape decade.

A plug from Anna for registering on our site

I thought I would just It is also really easy for you to register with our site and make comments. Bob and I had to do that — just so we didn’t get the free gambling commentary that didn’t make any sense at all on the site. But it is really easy to register, so easy that my niece Marren has already done it. If she can do it — so can you!

Comments keep the site fresh, fresh ideas, fresh teasing, and just good excuses to make fun of us. And who won’t want to make fun of Bob? He is always geeking out– and you need to call him on it. It’s good for us. Therapy for the nerdy Bolsters.

I would like to say that you would get a prize for doing it — like a fake tattoo that won’t actually work — or a bumper sticker that would never put on your car — or a tee-shirt that you would paint in. But we don’t have anything like that yet. Well, I guess I could send you one of my old shirts — like the one that my grandma gave me when I was 10 that said “I am living proof that Mother Nature has a sense of humor”. Hey — if you want that — I can send it to you. But you have to register first. And promise to wear the shirt in public. After all, it is a favorite of mine.

So there you go. Register. Make comments. Make fun of us — and get a tee-shirt from the granny. Or just sign up and think of how the tee-shirt will just sit in my closet for years to come taking up space, and how you will laugh when I wear it, because I do occasionally. We look forward to reading your comments soon.

Dear Friends,

We are excited to finally have this site online. Anna and I have designed its is best to provide a medium to provide information to our family and friends. Right now, Anna and I are experiencing a incredible part of our lives as we prepare for our marriage. As I right this, we’re 36 hours from being married.

For me, Bob, its kind of crazy to think how everything has happened. Anna has been my best friend for a very long time. Since the first weeks we started to date we immediately began to lean on each other for support. Its possible this occurred because so many things indicated to us we should date, ask us about it sometime, but immediately we knew we had to rely upon each other to get through those times. The reality is, I can’t see my life with out Anna.

We are grateful for all the support that we receive from our family and friends. Often times we think about people who lift us up and support us. If you are reading this, you might be one of them. What would we do without you guys? You strengthen us and guide us with your example, with your smile, with your support. Thank you, both Anna and I are grateful for the special people in our lives.

If you are coming to Seattle, I have included important links on the left hand navigation to help you arrive to the Temple, the Reception, or get a hold of us.

Thanks and welcome to our website!

Anna and Bob
